Indianapolis not ready for Kentucky Derby?

Yes, there's a horse named Indianapolis that will be running in the Kentucky Derby - if he's ready in time. He won his first two starts and was considered one of the top three colts that will be racing this year, but he's been having issues with his throat. And that may interfere with his ability to participate in the Run for the Roses this year - aka the Kentucky Derby 2014.

The health issue is so bad that trainer Bob Baffert has said Indianapolis may not be ready for his next start - let alone the Kentucky Derby. Apparently, he's been having problems for a while. He also missed the San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita Park in Southern California on February 12th of this year because he had a pretty bad cough. That was a while ago, and the health problems are still affecting the colt who was looking really good for the Kentucky Derby.

More information isn't coming out quickly. At a media teleconference recently sponsored by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Baffert said, "There's not much I can tell you." And that's a shame because a lot of people had high hopes for Indianapolis at the Kentucky Derby this year.

When asked when more would be known about Indianapolis racing in the Kentucky Derby, Baffert said, "I probably won't know for another couple of weeks, but right now, I'm not even thinking about it."

Baffert went on to say that things can literally change overnight, which is why he's not releasing any information until he knows for certain whether or not Indianapolis will be ready for the big race. However, one thing is for certain - many fans are rooting for this 3-year old colt and want to see him running in the 2014 Kentucky Derby.
