NFL WEEK 16 Spread Picks By: Richard Donohue

NFL WEEK 16 Spread Picks
By: Richard Donohue

If it weren’t for Arizona’s shocking performance, not only winning but also blowing out Detroit 38 – 10, I would’ve gone 3-0. Instead I went 2-1, putting me at 18 – 13 for the year. Before you get crazy, I took Houston at – 8.5. That was last Thursday, and by kickoff, the spread went up to 10.5. I’m a bit surprised that Houston didn’t cover that, but regardless, I hope you bought in at the lower number. Let’s try to ruin the bookie’s Christmas with this week’s picks, shall we? He’s a Scrooge anyway.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers –3 vs. St. Louis Rams:

I’m back on one my favorite teams this year for the same reason I liked the Texans last week. The Buccos were destroyed by New Orleans last week, getting shutout 41 – 0. We all know Tampa Bay’s Defense isn’t great, but it’s not like The Saints are the Purple People Eaters. That’s Tampa’s 4th straight loss and their worst of the year.  It’s gut check time for Schiano and I believe he will have Tampa prepared at home. Regardless of their record, they have played their opponents tough (outside of last week) and they need to get back to that. Their ATS record is still one of the strongest in the league at 8-5-1. The Rams to their credit have come up big at times during the year, and have won 3 of their last 4 games. The game will be tight, but 3 points will be enough for Tampa in their last home game this year.

Seattle Seahawks +1 vs. San Francisco 49er’s:

The Seahawks have one of the best home field advantages in the NFL. Only Seattle and Atlanta are undefeated at home this year, but Seattle’s home ATS is also perfect unlike the Falcons. Their 10 –4 ATS record is the best in the league by the way. They are underdogs at home to their division rivals, and still have a chance to win the NFC West. The Niners frankly can lay an egg from time to time, and coming off of their huge win against the Pats last week, they are due for a let down. Hey, they almost didn’t finish last week and coughed up that huge early lead. Seattle isn’t a bad team, so I really can’t call this a trap game, but it has that feel to me. The Niners can clinch the division with the win, but they won’t. This should be a fun game, and it may come down to the wire, so it’s nice to be on the plus side.

Tennessee Titans +13 at Green Bay Packers:

There are a lot of big lines this week, but I like this one the best. The Packers will win this game, but their run defense isn’t that great. They have allowed an average 4.5 yards per carry, and 114 yards a game. This is a nice matchup for Chris Johnson, and he’ll help the Titans keep it close enough to cover.
